Ces dernières années, la crise multidimensionnelle alarmante marquée par la violence armée, l’instabilité politique, la cherté de la vie n’est pas sans conséquence sur la fête de Noël en Haïti. Les activités sont revues à la baisse et dans les familles la fête n’est pas au rendez-vous. La crise économique, l’insécurté arrachent le goût de la fête des lèvres des haïtiens. A quelques heures de la Noël, les rues ne sont pas décorées comme à l’accoutumée. L’insalubrité s’impose. Même les grandes entreprises ne donnent pas le ton.
Après plus de 11 mois marqués par le déplacement forcé de plusieurs milliers de familles en raison de la violence inouïe des gangs, des personnes ayant perdu des proches, d’autres qui ont laissé le pays ou qui sont tombées sous les balles assassines, des gens qui sont traumatisés en raison du kidnapping, des familles qui ont perdu leurs maisons et qui vivent dans des abris, entre autres, drames qui ont marqué la vie des citoyens dans le pays au cours de l’année 2023.
S’il est vrai que le constat montre que les rues et les marchés sont bondés de monde, ce qui a provoqué de l’embouteillage sur plusieurs axes routiers de la zone métropolitaine de Port-au-Prince, c’est parce que les gens tentent malgré tout, de survivre dans ce contexte difficile et inopportun pour participer aux traditions festives de cette période.
Les décorations de Noël ou les traditionnels chants de Noël, symboles de cette époque, se font de plus en plus rares dans les magasins, les entreprises et les institutions privées et publiques cette année dans le pays. Les cadeaux pour les enfants ou la rénovation des maisons, qui constituent en soit les traditions du peuple haïtien, qui a coutume d’accueillir Noël début décembre en plaçant des arbres ou des branches de pin à l’entrée de leurs maisons sont en voie de disparition.
Toutefois, la traditionnelle échange des cadeaux, de vœux, le shopping se maintiennent encore mais pas pour toutes les classes car en raison de l’inflation galopante, l’insécurité alimentaire et la cherté de la vie la classe moyenne appauvri et la masse défavorisée ne peuvent se permettre ce luxe dans un pays où la nourriture, l’électricité restent un fardeau pour certains. Mais les citoyens se mobilisent nettoyant leur quartier alors que les mairies laissent les rues de la zone métropolitaine de Port-au-Prince décorées de détritus de toutes sortes.
La diaspora haïtienne qui a toujours contribué à rehausser l’éclat de la célébration de la Noël en Haïti, se voit privée de fêter à distance en raison des territoires perdues. En temps de stabilité, tout le monde pouvait fonctionner en toute quiétude : les activités commerciales étaient plus rentables et les compatriotes de la diaspora rentraient en masse mais ces jours-ci, passer une journée dans les rues de Port-au-Prince c’est s’exposer davantage à la mort et la terreur.
Le cœur n’est pas la fête, encore pour cette année, la population haïtienne est impuissante face à l’effritement de cette tradition qu’elle enchérit tant. Si la Noël demeure dans le cœur des haïtiens, mais dans leurs têtes, ce sont les problèmes vitaux qui rythment.
