Des hommes armés non identifiés ont attaqué, dans la nuit du 11 au 12 novembre 2023, le domicile du journaliste Wandy Charles, qui a réussi à s’échapper indemne avec sa famille. Toutefois, Mackenson Calixte Charles, son frère, a été grièvement blessé lors de cette violente attaque. Atteint par deux projectiles, il se trouve actuellement dans un état critique après avoir subi deux interventions chirurgicales.
Les assaillants ont ouvert le feu sur la résidence du rédacteur en chef de l’agence en ligne Vant Bèf Info, Wandy Charles, à Vivy Mitchell, alors que des gangs tentaient de lancer des assauts contre ce quartier résidentiel situé dans la commune de Pétion-Ville. Les véhicules du journaliste et de sa famille, stationnés dans le parking de la maison, ont été criblés de balles.
L’ingénieur Mackenson Calixte Charles, le grand frère du travailleur de la presse, a été blessé par balle lors de cette attaque armée. Contacté par téléphone par notre rédaction, Wandy Charles a assuré que les autres membres de sa famille: ses deux sœurs ainsi que ses parents âgés sont pour le moment en sécurité, après avoir été évacués en urgence de la zone.
» Outre mon frère, Johnny Pivier, un ami de la famille Charles, a reçu lui aussi une balle à la hanche au moment où il nous aidait à évacuer Mackenson. Il a été transporté à l’hôpital après. Depuis hier soir, Il est sorti de l’hôpital après avoir reçu les soins nécessaires. Son état de santé est stable « , nous rapporte Wandy Charles lors d’un entretien téléphonique.
Toujours sous le choc, le rédacteur en chef et professeur de journalisme renvoie cette attaque contre lui et sa famille au phénomène de la violence armée qui n’épargne personne dans la région métropolitaine de Port-au-Prince. Ayant frôlé la mort, le journaliste-enseignant a exprimé son inquiétude pour lui-même et pour sa famille, car il ignore si lui et ses proches ont été la cible des bandits armés. Il dit craindre pour sa sécurité future et celle de la famille Charles.
Il est à noter que la famille de Wandy Charles est déjà confrontée au chaos qui règne dans le pays, car l’une de ses sœurs avait été kidnappée puis libérée contre rançon après plusieurs jours aux mains de ravisseurs en 2022. Malgré la peur et le choc, le journaliste reste fidèle à ses engagements. Tout en remerciant ses collègues, amis et autres personnes qui ont exprimé leur soutien et leur solidarité en ce moment crucial de sa vie, Wandy Charles rassure qu’il se porte bien physiquement, bien qu’il soit affecté mentalement.
Il souhaite que la paix et la sécurité soient rétablies dans le pays, car selon lui, la dégradation du climat sécuritaire, notamment dans la zone métropolitaine de Port-au-Prince, plonge la population haïtienne dans le désespoir. Il partage la douleur des personnes victimes de la violence incessante engendrée par les groupes armés.
