Haïti figure parmi les cinq pays les plus préoccupants selon le dernier rapport conjoint de l’Organisation des Nations Unies pour l’Alimentation et l’Agriculture (FAO) et du Programme Alimentaire Mondial (PAM), publié le lundi 16 juin 2025. Intitulé Hunger Hotspots, ce rapport met en garde contre un risque imminent de famine dans plusieurs régions du globe, dont la zone métropolitaine de Port-au-Prince, frappée par une insécurité sans précédent.
Selon les données, plus de 8 400 personnes déplacées dans la région métropolitaine de Port-au-Prince sont déjà confrontées à des niveaux extrêmes d’insécurité alimentaire aiguë classés en Phase 5 (Catastrophe), selon le Cadre intégré de classification de la sécurité alimentaire (IPC). La violence des gangs, les déplacements massifs de population et l’accès restreint à l’aide humanitaire aggravent la situation, menaçant la survie des milliers de familles.
« La faim aujourd’hui n’est pas une menace lointaine, c’est une urgence quotidienne pour des millions de personnes « , déclaré QU DONGYU, Directeur Général de la FAO. Bien que cette déclaration concerne l’ensemble des pays couverts par le rapport, elle s’applique pleinement au cas d’Haïti, où les conditions de survie sont gravement compromises. De son côté, la Directrice Exécutive du PAM, Cindy MCCAIN, parle d’un » signal d’alerte rouge « , appelant à une mobilisation urgente des bailleurs de fonds et à la levée des obstacles entravant l’acheminement de l’aide.
Outre Haïti, le rapport classe également le Soudan, la Palestine, le Soudan du Sud et le Mali comme zones de plus haute préoccupation. Les causes varient : conflits armés, inflation galopante, catastrophes naturelles et crises politiques prolongées.
En Haïti, où les autorités haïtiennes peinent à rétablir l’ordre et garantir un minimum de services, les capacités de résilience des communautés sont au plus bas. les deux organisations appellent à une solidarité mondiale renforcée pour prévenir l’escalade de crises alimentaires et protéger les populations les plus vulnérables.
