Le Conseiller-Président Smith AUGUSTIN privilégie la stabilité et se retire des démarches controversées contre le Coordonnateur du CPT
Dans une correspondance, datée du jeudi 29 janvier 2026, le Conseiller-Président Smith AUGUSTIN a informé ses collègues de sa décision de ne plus prendre part aux discussions et votes liés à une éventuelle destitution du Coordonnateur du Conseil Présidentiel de Transition (CPT), Laurent SAINT-CYR. Il évoque l’absence de base juridique consensuelle et met en garde contre les risques d’une escalade institutionnelle à l’approche de la fin du mandat.
Dans sa lettre adressée aux autres Conseillers-Présidents, Smith AUGUSTIN reconnaît avoir initialement soutenu la démarche visant à écarter le Premier Ministre Alix Didier FILS-AIMÉ. Il estime avoir agi dans le cadre de ses prérogatives institutionnelles, en toute bonne foi, dans l’objectif de faciliter le processus de transition.
Il affirme toutefois constater que cette initiative a contribué à accentuer les divisions internes au sein du CPT et à détériorer les relations avec certains partenaires internationaux. Face à cette situation, le Conseiller-Président dit avoir opté pour une approche basée sur le dialogue, en privilégiant la concertation plutôt que la confrontation.
Monsieur AUGUSTIN se dit désormais opposé à la nouvelle orientation visant la destitution du Coordonnateur du CPT. Selon lui, une telle procédure ouvrirait la voie à des blocages juridiques et à une crise institutionnelle difficilement maîtrisable.
Il précise enfin qu’il entend s’abstenir de toute participation à des décisions similaires jusqu’à la fin du mandat du Conseil Présidentiel de Transition. Il appelle ses collègues à faire preuve de retenue, estimant que la sortie de crise passe, avant tout, par le respect des règles institutionnelles, la stabilité et la recherche du consensus.
