L’homme d’affaires Joseph Harry BRÉTOUS, également connu pour sa candidature à l’élection présidentielle de 2015, a été assassiné dans la soirée du dimanche 17 août 2025. L’incident s’est produit à Pèlerin 2, dans la zone du Morne Calvaire, commune de Pétion-Ville, où il a été pris pour cible par des individus armés.
Selon les premières informations disponibles, les assaillants circulaient à moto lorsqu’ils ont ouvert le feu sur le véhicule de la victime. Grièvement blessé, M BRÉTOUS a été transporté d’urgence à l’hôpital, mais il n’a pas survécu à ses blessures.
Figure connue aussi bien dans le milieu des affaires que dans la sphère politique, il dirigeait le parti Ayiti Kanpe ainsi que la Fondation Harry Brétous. Sa candidature à la présidentielle de 2015, sous la bannière Konbit Pou Ayiti (KOPA), lui avait valu une certaine visibilité sur la scène nationale.
Originaire de Port-au-Prince et père de quatre enfants, il était également le père de Robert Harry BRÉTOUS, arrêté en juillet 2020 par la Direction Centrale de la Police Judiciaire (DCPJ) pour son implication présumée dans le double assassinat des jeunes danseurs professionnels Nancy DORLÉANS et Sébastien PETIT.
À quelques jours seulement de son 68e anniversaire, Joseph Harry BRÉTOUS a vu sa vie brutalement interrompue. Au lieu d’une célébration, c’est une tragédie de plus qui s’ajoute à la longue liste de vies fauchées par la spirale de violence qui endeuille le pays.
