Port-au-Prince est désormais la ville la plus violente du monde, selon le classement annuel du Conseil citoyen pour la sécurité publique et la justice pénale, publié le 19 février 2025. La capitale haïtienne affiche un taux record de 139,3 homicides pour 100 000 habitants en 2024 contre 117 en 2023 et 55 en 2022. Une explosion de la violence qui illustre la montée en puissance des gangs, désormais maîtres de 85 % du territoire urbain.
Depuis l’assassinat du Président Jovenel Moïse en 2021, Haïti s’enfonce dans une spirale de chaos. L’absence de forces de l’ordre efficaces, la corruption endémique et l’effondrement économique ont laissé la population livrée aux groupes armés. Les enlèvements, assassinats et déplacements forcés se multiplient, sous la domination des gangs de la coalition « Viv Ansanm », qui imposent leur loi par la terreur.
Cette insécurité chronique paralyse également l’économie du pays, rendant tout espoir de redressement quasi impossible. À l’échelle mondiale, d’autres villes du Mexique, comme Colima et Manzanillo, restent parmi les plus dangereuses, avec 20 des 50 villes les plus meurtrières situées dans ce pays. Mais la situation en Haïti se distingue par l’effondrement total de l’État et l’impasse politique persistante.
Alors que Port-au-Prince détient aujourd’hui le triste record de la ville la plus violente du monde, l’avenir du pays semble de plus en plus sombre. Face à cette crise humanitaire et sécuritaire sans précédent, les Haïtiens attendent désespérément une réponse forte des autorités locales et de la communauté internationale.
