Lors de l’élection du nouveau Secrétaire Général de l’Organisation des États Américains (OEA), le Ministre haïtien des Affaires Étrangères, Jean-Victor Harvel JEAN-BAPTISTE, a salué la désignation d’Albert RAMDIN à la tête de l’Organisation. Ce dernier devient ainsi le premier Caribéen, issu de la CARICOM, à occuper ce poste depuis la création de l’OEA en 1948. Pour le Chef de la diplomatie haïtienne, cette élection constitue un tournant historique, renforçant la présence de la région caribéenne dans les affaires diplomatiques du continent.
Dans son intervention, Monsieur JEAN-BAPTISTE a félicité le Chili pour sa présidence de la 56ᵉ session extraordinaire de l’Assemblée Générale de l’OEA, soulignant la sagesse et l’efficacité avec lesquelles cette session a été menée. Il a également adressé ses vives félicitations à Albert RAMDIN, mettant en avant la confiance accordée par les États membres à son leadership pour relever les défis diplomatiques de l’hémisphère.
Le Chancelier haïtien a ensuite abordé les défis majeurs auxquels l’OEA et la région des Amériques devront faire face dans les années à venir. Il a notamment mentionné les bouleversements politiques, économiques, environnementaux et technologiques, qui affectent la stabilité du continent. Selon lui, il est impératif de réinventer l’OEA afin de la rendre plus efficace face aux enjeux contemporains.
Dans un plaidoyer appuyé, l’ancien Représentant permanent d’Haïti à l’OEA a mis en lumière la situation critique d’Haïti, confrontée à des crises politique, sécuritaire et économique. Il a insisté sur le rôle crucial de la solidarité internationale et a appelé à un soutien renforcé pour aider son pays à rétablir la paix, la sécurité et la stabilité. Pour lui, seule une coopération régionale plus forte permettra d’apporter des solutions durables aux États en difficulté.
En conclusion, le Ministre haïtien a réaffirmé l’engagement d’Haïti envers les principes fondamentaux de l’OEA, notamment la promotion de la paix, de la démocratie et des droits humains. Il a lancé un appel pressant à l’unité et à la coopération entre les États membres, estimant que seule une intégration régionale renforcée permettra de garantir un avenir stable et prospère pour l’ensemble des peuples des Amériques.
