L’insécurité qui ravage Haïti a franchi un nouveau seuil dramatique ce jeudi 13 février 2025. L’Hôpital de l’Université d’État d’Haïti (HUEH), le plus grand centre hospitalier du pays, a été incendié par le groupe armé « Viv Ansanm », plongeant le pays encore davantage dans un tourbillon de violence.
D’après Évelyne FREMONT, responsable du syndicat des employés de l’hôpital, plusieurs services vitaux, tels que la radiologie, la pharmacie, l’orthopédie, les salles d’opération, le service de chirurgie et les archives centrales, ont été dévastés par les flammes.
Une grande partie de l’hôpital est aujourd’hui en ruines, seule la salle de consultation générale restant intacte. Cette attaque est la première d’une telle envergure contre l’hôpital cette année, mais elle s’inscrit dans une dynamique inquiétante de destruction d’infrastructures publiques par des groupes armés, opérant en toute impunité.
Cet incendie survient après une tentative infructueuse de réouverture de l’hôpital, pilotée par l’ex-ministre de la Santé Duckenson Lorthé BLEMA. Ce projet avait été violemment interrompu par des affrontements meurtriers, coûtant la vie à deux journalistes et un policier, tandis que plusieurs autres journalistes avaient été blessés.
L’incendie de l’Hôpital Universitaire d’État d’Haïti est bien plus qu’une attaque contre un établissement de santé ; il symbolise l’échec de l’État à contrer la montée en puissance des gangs. Ces derniers, loin d’être inquiétées par les autorités, continuent de démontrer leur domination face à une police démunie.
À quelques pas du Palais National, aucune mesure de sécurité n’a été mise en place pour protéger les infrastructures publiques. Malgré l’envoi de matériel à la Police Nationale d’Haïti (PNH) entre 2024 et début 2025 pour renforcer ses capacités d’intervention, l’autorité de l’État reste inexistante face à la progression des groupes armés.
Haïti semble sombré chaque jour un peu plus dans l’anarchie. Tandis que la population civile paie un lourd tribut, l’inaction des autorités nourrit un sentiment d’abandon et d’incertitude. Quand la situation sera-t-elle réellement prise en main ?
