L’Initiative pour le Développement des Jeunes (IDEJEN) en appui à l’UNICEF a commémoré la journée nationale de l’enfant, coïncidant à la célébration du 35e anniversaire de la convention relative aux droits de l’enfant. Environ 500 enfants venant de 20 sites de déplacement de la région métropolitaine ont participé à cette journée spéciale.
Près de 500 enfants issus des camps de réfugiés de la capitale se sont réunis au Collège Canado Haïtien (CCH), pour célébrer la journée liés aux enfants. «Mw bezwen, lapè, lasante, ledikasyon, lajwa ak sekirite », c’est le thème retenu par IDEJEN pour célébrer cette journée. Cette initiative vise à mettre la lumière sur la violation flagrante des droits des enfants surtout dans les sites improvisés. Activités culturelles, expositions des œuvres des enfants, sensibilisation sur le respect des droits, distribution de kits, entres autres, aux enfants, ont été à l’ordre du jour.
Plusieurs personnalités dont le représentant de l’UNICEF en Haïti, Bruno MAES; l’ambassadeur de l’UNICEF, Jean Jean ROOSEVELT; la directrice de l’IBERS, Arielle VILLEDROUIN; la directrice exécutive de l’IDEJEN, Marie-Guerda PREVILON ont été présents lors de cette activité récréative organisée par l’organisation Initiative pour le Développement des Jeunes.
« On a recensé plus de 600 000 déplacés internes à cause de la violence, la majorité soit environ 52% sont des enfants. Ces derniers se sont retrouvés à la première ligne de l’impact négatif de cette situation de crise », a déclaré Bruno MAES.
Par ailleurs, le Représentant du Fonds de l’Éducation pour l’Enfance a fait savoir que l’agence onusienne a recensé plus de six violations graves des droits des enfants en Haïti dans ce contexte. En ce sens, il interpelle les autorités du gouvernement de transition à mettre les droits des enfants au cœur du débat afin de voler à leur secours.
Pour sa part, la directrice de l’institut du Bien Être Social, Arielle VILLEDROUIN croit que le pays doit davantage valoriser les enfants, car ils représentent l’avenir. Elle encourage la société à les protéger surtout dans le contexte actuel. Mme VILLEDROUIN croit qu’il ne faut pas traiter les enfants comme des objets mais comme des sujets de droit.
De son côté, la directrice de IDEJEN, Marie-Guerda PREVILON a fait savoir que dans les sites de déplacement, le droit des enfants est pratiquement violé au quotidien. Elle estime que les enfants ont besoin d’être encadrés, valorisés et de vivre dans un environnement sain afin qu’ils s’épanouissent.
Par ailleurs, elle demande à tous et à chacun de respecter les droits de tous les enfants car c’est l’avenir du pays en dépend. La responsable de l’IDEJEN croit que les enfants ont besoin de la paix, la sécurité, l’éducation, la santé et c’est la responsabilité des autorités de les leur offrir.
IDEJEN souhaite contribuer à la création de l’environnement dans lequel chaque enfant et chaque jeune bénéficie de l’accès à l’éducation et peut vivre dans un environnement favorable pour un développement harmonieux favorisant leur intégration. La mission principale d’IDEJEN est de contribuer à l’amélioration des conditions de vie des jeunes des zones marginalisées, afin qu’ils deviennent autonomes et participent au développement socio-économique du pays en tant que citoyens à part entière.
