Soupçonné d’avoir reçu de l’argent de la part du Qatar en échange de son aide sur des dossiers concernant la monarchie du Golfe, l’eurodéputé belge, Marc Tarabella, a été placé sous les verrous, à la suite de son inculpation pour corruption et blanchiment d’argent.
C’est dans le cadre de « l’enquête sur des soupçons d’ingérence du Qatar et du Maroc dans les décisions du Parlement européen que le socialiste de 59 ans a été inculpé et placé en détention ce samedi 11 février 2023 », a annoncé le parquet fédéral.
Tarabella n’est pas le seul qui fait tourner cette machine de corruption au sein du parlement européen. Dans le cadre de cette même enquête, l’Italien Andrea Cozzolino, un autre eurodéputé socialiste, privé de son immunité depuis le 2 février, a été arrêté en Italie, a confirmé un porte-parole du parquet, Eric van der Sijpt.
« Il était visé par un mandat d’arrêt international, il a été arrêté et on attend son extradition », a fait savoir le porte-parole. Toujours selon lui, Marc Tarabella et Cozzolino, europarlementaires du groupe « Socialistes et Démocrates » sont tous deux soupçonnés d’avoir favorisé l’ingérence du Qatar et du Maroc dans les décisions du parlement.
La presse belge publie des informations faisant croire que Pier Antonio Panzeri, ancien eurodéputé Italien, a affirmé, devant les enquêteurs en décembre après son interpellation à Bruxelles, avoir versé à Marc Tarabella « entre 120.000 et 140.000 euros » en plusieurs fois pour son aide dans les dossiers liés au Qatar.
Face à ces déclarations, Marc Tarabella a nié toute malversation, et réclamé de pouvoir être entendu pour s’expliquer. À present, le dossier suit son cours, mais il faut noter que l’eurodéputée grecque Eva Kaili, déchue en décembre de sa fonction de vice-présidente du Parlement, ainsi que son assistant parlementaire Francesco Giorgi, ont déjà été placés sous les verrous.
Pour plus d’un, une véritable honte pour le parlement européen.
