À l’occasion de la célébration de la Journée Internationale de la Jeunesse, le 12 août 2022, le Dr Oméga Chéry, Secrétaire Général de l’organisation les Engagés pour le Développement(EDE), a appelé la jeunesse haïtienne à s’impliquer davantage dans la cause d’Haïti. Il s’agit de reconstruire une Haïti à la dimension de sa glorieuse histoire.
Si cette année l’objectif de la journée internationale de la jeunesse était de « mettre toutes les générations en action pour atteindre les Objectifs de Développement Durable (ODD) et ne laisser personne de côté », le Dr Oméga Chéry croît qu’il est invraisemblable d’atteindre ces objectifs en Haïti sans la participation pleine, effective et véritable des jeunes; cette catégorie considérée dans toute société développée comme le levier qui peut faire bouger tous les secteurs.
Pour le secrétaire général de l’organisation EDE, «la jeunesse est le moment idéal de la construction de tous les grands projets du futur et de l’exploration du monde. Les jeunes représentent à la fois le présent et le futur de toutes les communautés. Ils ont la capacité d’identifier et de remettre en question les structures de pouvoir existantes et les obstacles au changement, et d’exposer les contradictions et les préjugés. Ils disposent de l’avantage du temps, de l’esprit critique et innovateur, de la force physique et surtout de l’énergie transformatrice».
L’appel du Dr Chéry prend tout son sens avec l’échec cuisant des autorités du pays (passés et présents) qui n’ont pas pu tenir et mener à bonne fin le projet de construction d’Haïti proposé par les Pères fondateurs de la Nation haïtienne. Il est donc une nécessité pour que la conscience de la jeunesse haïtienne soit éveillée sur le fait qu’elle doit être le véritable moteur du changement, constituer une force qui vise a inverser la situation et placer Haïti sur les rails du développement.
«Jeunesse de mon pays, soyez à la hauteur des espérances de nos pères fondateurs, soyez des engagés pour la bonne cause, soyez d’abord Haïti !», a lancé Dr Oméga Chéry.
