Le 25 novembre est la journée internationale contre la violence à l’égard des femmes et des filles. Elle a été instaurée par l’Organisation des Nations Unies(ONU) pour réfléchir et sensibiliser contre toutes sortes de violences faites aux femmes et aux filles.
La date du 25 novembre est la journée internationale de lutte contre la violence à l’égard des femmes, elle a été choisie par l’ONU en 1999. Cette journée a été prise en mémoire des sœurs Mirabal ( Patricia, Minerva, María Teresa), des militantes dominicaines qui ont été assassinées, le 25 novembre 1960. Ces femmes ont été tuées, car elles revendiquaient leurs droits contre la dictature de Rafaël Trujillo qui était président de la République Dominicaine.
Chaque année, cette date est marquée par seize (16) jours d’activisme qui débute du 25 novembre au 10 décembre, à l’occasion de la journée des droits de l’homme. cette année, la journée internationale pour l’élimination de la violence à l’égard des femmes a pour thème : TOUS UNIS! L’ACTIVISME POUR L’ÉLIMINATION DE LA VIOLENCE À L’ÉGARD DES FEMMES ET DES FILLES. Selon l’Organisation des Nations Unies, le thème de cette année appellera à un soutien renforcé envers l’activisme, pour prévenir toutes sortes de violences faites sur les femmes, comme ; des coups, viols, harcèlement, tortures, incarcération pour des raisons politiques et autres.
Ces 16 jours de campagne internationale est dirigée par le Secrétaire Général des Nations Unies et ONU Femmes. Pour l’ONU, ces jours sont organisés afin de créer des opportunités de discussions sur les défis et les solutions. Et aussi de mobiliser les décideurs, les communautés, et autres, pour dire NON à toutes formes de violences basées sur le genre, et à poser des actions visant à éradiquer ce grave problème.
