Alors que le procès lié à l’assassinat de l’ancien Président Jovenel MOÏSE se poursuit aux États-Unis, Rodney LOUIS, activiste politique, dénonce la faible couverture de ce dossier par les médias haïtiens. Il s’interroge sur les raisons de cette absence et sur les facteurs susceptibles d’influencer le traitement de l’information.
Dans son analyse, Rodney LOUIS met en évidence ce qu’il considère comme un malaise au sein du paysage médiatique national. Selon lui, ce procès pourrait révéler d’éventuelles responsabilités impliquant des acteurs économiques et politiques haïtiens. Malgré ces enjeux, il constate une discrétion notable de la presse locale.
L’activiste estime que ce silence n’est pas anodin. Il évoque l’existence de liens entre certains organes de presse et des figures influentes, susceptibles d’avoir des intérêts liés aux événements ayant précédé l’assassinat.
« Lorsque certains de ces acteurs sont eux-mêmes impliqués, directement ou indirectement, dans la dynamique politique de l’époque, il devient compréhensible que les médias évitent le sujet », affirme-t-il.
Selon Rodney LOUIS, cette retenue médiatique contribue à minimiser la portée du procès auprès de l’opinion publique. Dans un contexte où les médias traditionnels et les réseaux sociaux jouent un rôle central dans la diffusion de l’information, l’absence de débats approfondis limite la compréhension des enjeux par la population.
Il souligne également que cette situation soulève des interrogations sur l’indépendance de la presse haïtienne. « Une démocratie ne peut fonctionner sans un journalisme critique. Lorsque les médias deviennent dépendants des intérêts qu’ils sont censés examiner, ils perdent leur rôle de contre-pouvoir », soutient-il.
Pour Rodney LOUIS, l’assassinat de Jovenel MOÏSE constitue à la fois un drame politique majeur et un test pour les institutions du pays, ainsi que pour le fonctionnement du journalisme national. En somme, il considère que le silence observé dans les médias reflète des rapports de pouvoir qui influencent la circulation de l’information en Haïti.
