Lors de sa participation à l’Assemblée Générale de l’OEA, la Ministre canadienne des Affaires Mondiales, Mélani JOLY, a annoncé de nouvelles sanctions à 4 personnalités haïtiennes.
La Ministre Joly a annoncé que le Canada avait imposé des sanctions pour violation des droits de la personne, y compris la violence sexuelle, à quatre autres personnes liées à la situation en Haïti. Il s’agit de l’homme d’Affaires André APAID et de 3 chefs de gangs: Lanmò San Jou, Vithel’homme INNOCENT et Johnson ANDRÈ.
D’après un communiqué de la chancellerie canadienne, ces sanctions imposent une interdiction de transactions qui a pour effet de geler tous les avoirs que ces personnes pourraient détenir au Canada. De plus, ces personnes sont désormais interdites de fouler le sol canadien en vertu de la Loi sur l’immigration et la protection des réfugiés.
Il faut, toutefois, noter que la Ministre Joly et la Ministre des Affaires Étrangères et du Commerce extérieur de la Jamaïque, Kamina Johnson SMITH, ont organisé la troisième réunion du Groupe des Ministres des Affaires Étrangères Canada-CARICOM, où elles ont réaffirmé leur engagement à l’égard des valeurs communes du Canada et la CARICOM, don’t Haïti en fait partie.
