La Ministre a.i des Affaires Etrangères et des Cultes, Emmelie PROPHETE MILCE, s’est entretenue, ce lundi 18 septembre 2023, avec la Cheffe du Bureau Intégré des Nations Unies en Haïti (BINUH), Maria Isabel SALVADOR, au local dudit ministère. Les échanges se sont portés sur l’évolution de la situation entre la République d’Haïti et la République Dominicaine après que cette dernière ait fermé l’ensemble de ses frontières avec Haïti, le 15 septembre dernier, suite à la construction du canal de la rivière Massacre.
Lors d’une visite de courtoisie au MAE, la Représentante Spéciale du Secrétaire Général des Nations Unies en Haïti, Madame Maria Isabel Salvador, a exprimé ses inquiétudes par rapport à la dégradation des relations entre Haïti et la République voisine, et aux impacts négatifs que cela pourrait avoir sur la situation socio-économique du pays.
Le numéro #1 du BINUH encourage les autorités haïtiennes à poursuivre les discussions au dialogue bilatéral pour résoudre diplomatiquement la crise, dans le cadre du Droit International. Elle en a profité pour partager ses préoccupations et celles d’une partie de la Communauté Internationale concernant les conséquences d’une telle situation pour les deux pays.
Pour se part, la Ministre Prophète Milcé a réaffirmé qu’Haïti opte pour le chemin dialogue afin de résoudre ce conflit diplomatique., tout en soulignant, une nouvelle fois, qu’Haïti a le droit souverain de faire des prises sur la rivière Massacre.
En guise de rappel, la ministre avait rencontré l’Ambassadeur de la République Dominicaine en Haïti, SEM Farouk Miguel Castillo, le vendredi 15 septembre écoulé autour de ce sujet.
