Alors que la rentrée scolaire, prévue au 11 septembre 2023, s’approche à grand pas; les préparatifs, quant à eux; vont à pas de tortue. En effet, directeurs, professeurs, enseignants parents et élèves expriment leur doute quant à la réouverture des classes en raison de la dégradation de la situation sociopolitique, économique et sécuritaire du pays. De leurs côtés, des bouquinistes et marchands de fournitures scolaires se montrent très préoccupés par rapport au fait qu’à quelques jours de la rentrée, peu de gens répondent à l’appel.
Assis devant un chariot remplit de livres, Roberde Jean, un quinquagénaire, est bouquiniste depuis environ une vingtaine d’années à la Croix-des-Missions. Il déplore la baisse considérable de la vente cette année.
« Ce n’est que durant ces deux semaines quelques parents sont passés retiré quelques livres. La vente est pire comparativement aux années antérieures. », deplore-t-il arguant qu’en plus de la situation sécuritaire du pays, la cherté de la vie impacte également sur les activités commerciales des fournitures classiques.
« La vie est trop chère,5 ans de cela avec 1500 gourdes, un parent pouvait acheter au moins 3 à 5 livres mais aujourd’hui c’est le prix d’un seul livre. », ajoute-t-il.
Il nous explique que les parents achètent le peu de livres avec les moyens qu’ils disposent, surtout les moins chers et ceux les plus importants tels que ( les livres de français, de mathématiques, de physiques, de sciences sociales entres autres.
A quelques pas de Roberde, on raconte un autre marchand quo requiert l’anonymat. Selon lui, l’éducation n’est pas la priorité des autorités, encore moins des familles puisque, soutient-il, les parents se préoccupent beaucoup plus de la sécurité et la protection de leurs enfants. Face à la conjoncture actuelle les parents préfèrent garder leurs enfants chez eux.
« Au delà de la crise multidimensionnelle, je crois que ce manque à gagner est du aussi à la décision de certaines écoles qui font injonction aux parents d’acheter les fournitures scolaires, à leurs directions.», poursuit-il.
Augustin Charles un quadragénaire debout devant ses marchandises étalés sur un tréteau avec une cigarette en main. Le bouquiniste a déclaré que malgré l’inflation galopante et la cherté de la vie, certains parents font des efforts et viennent acheter des livres de temps à autre. Selon lui, ces derniers se soucient toujours de l’éducation de leurs enfants car, poursuit-il c’est la seule porte de sortie pour leurs progénitures.
Par ailleurs il demande aux autorités gouvernementales de prendre des mesures favorables à la réouverture des classes surtout dans cette situation difficile.
