Le premier ministre, Ariel Henry a rencontré, le mercredi 23 août 2023, le haut commandement de la police nationale d’Haïti. Au cours de cette rencontre, les autorités gouvernementales et policières ont effectué un débriefing de la journée de travail de la veille avec les délégués de la mission kenyans, présidés par l’ambassadeur Georges Orina.
Moins de 24 heures après la visite de la délégation Kenyane en Haïti, le chef du gouvernement et le Haut Commandement de la PNH se sont entretenus autour des points clés débattus lors des rencontres avec les émissaires kenyans.
Au cours de cette journée le haut commandement de la Police a précisé qu’il voulait et attendait de l’aide pour renforcer la PNH afin de lui permettre de gagner en efficacité. Toutes les parties ont été d’accord sur le fait que la mission Kenyane n’a pas pas pour but de remplacer l’institution policière, ni d’effectuer son travail mais l’aider à devenir plus performante, plus adaptée, plus en mesure d’accomplir à bien sa mission.
Le haut commandement dit se réjouir que la Police haïtienne soit présente dans toutes les phases préparatoires de la mission et réfléchir pour une meilleure articulation possible pour améliorer la vie des citoyens et leur permettre de circuler librement et d’habiter tranquillement leur quartier.
La PNH a plaidé en faveur d’une formation des unités d’intervention au sein de l’institution pour faire face à l’insécurité et garantir la stabilité du pays, a expliqué le haut commandement.
En guise de rappel, la délégation kenyane composée de 10 membres a quitté Haiti le 23 août après sa visite de trois jours visant l’examination du terrain, réaliser des pourparlers avec les autorités gouvernementales et diplomatiques sur une possible intervention pouvant aider le pays à faire face à l’insécurité et la violence des gangs armés.
