L’Association International Baseball of Haïti (IBAOH) a procédé, le dimanche 31 août 2025, à sa rentrée officielle dans le département de l’Ouest lors d’une cérémonie organisée à l’hôtel Ritz Kinam. L’événement a été dirigé par la Coordinatrice Générale de l’institution, Bettia ELIASSAINT.

Selon l’IBAOH, quelques clubs et associations locales œuvrent déjà à la promotion du baseball dans l’Ouest, à travers des initiatives communautaires et des projets soutenus par des partenaires étrangers ou des ONG. Toutefois, ce sport reste encore peu développé en raison du manque d’infrastructures adaptées, du coût élevé des équipements et d’une faible médiatisation.

Malgré ces obstacles, le baseball présente plusieurs atouts. Sur le plan social, il contribue à occuper l’esprit des jeunes, à réduire l’oisiveté et à renforcer l’esprit d’équipe. Sur le plan éducatif, il favorise la discipline, la concentration et le respect des règles. Sur le plan sportif, il ouvre des perspectives de bourses et même de carrière, notamment grâce à la proximité de la République dominicaine, où cette discipline est très populaire.

Pour encourager sa croissance dans l’Ouest, l’Association recommande la construction de nouveaux terrains, la création d’académies de formation, l’organisation de compétitions scolaires et locales, ainsi qu’une sensibilisation accrue des médias et du public à l’importance de diversifier les activités sportives.

La cérémonie s’est déroulée en présence de représentants de plusieurs associations partenaires, dont Eprage, Best Pool et P.H.A. entre autres.

Madame ELIASSAINT a souligné que, bien qu’encore méconnu dans l’Ouest, le baseball a déjà trouvé un certain essor dans le Nord du pays. Elle estime qu’il constitue une réelle opportunité pour la jeunesse haïtienne : « C’est un sport porteur de valeurs, de discipline et d’avenir. Si les institutions, les associations et la communauté s’unissent pour le soutenir, le baseball pourrait devenir, aux côtés du football, une nouvelle fierté sportive nationale », a-t-elle déclaré.
