La journaliste et militante, Liliane PIERRE PAUL, est décédée, le lundi 31 juillet 2023, des suites d’un arrêt cardiaque, à l’âge de 70 ans, après plus de 40 ans de carrière. La Directrice de programmation, co-fondatrice de Radio Kiskeya et présentatrice vedette du Journal de 4h, a su marquer son époque. La voix qui chuchotait : « Sou Radyo Kiskeya li fè katrè », s’est tue à jamais sur les ondes du 88.5 FM.
Cette icône incontournable est née le 16 juin 1953, dans la commune de Petit-Goâve, et était une militante pour la liberté d’expression en Haïti depuis plus de 35 ans. Dans les années 1980, alors qu’elle était journaliste de la Radio Haïti Inter, elle s’est fait une réputation comme l’une des figures de proue de la lutte pour l’établissement d’un État de droit en Haïti et de la lutte pour l’émancipation des femmes surtout dans la presse haïtienne.
Les sacrifices tant consentis par cette icône de la presse haïtienne pour l’émergence, dans le pays, d’un Etat de droit démocratique basé sur le respect et la réalisation des droits humains, n’ont pas de prix. La société haïtienne retiendra que Liliane Pierre-Paul a consacré une bonne partie de sa vie à lutter pour la liberté de la presse et la liberté d’expression en général. Elle possédait une grande culture générale. Son sens de l’éthique faisait de Liliane Pierre-Paul une journaliste appréciée, admirée et respectée, en Haïti et à l’étranger.
Son nom symbolise l’engagement et la conviction, vu le rôle prépondérant qu’elle a joué dans la lutte pour la liberté d’expression, la démocratie et la liberté de la presse. Elle rêvait d’un pays prospère, sans exclusion.
Revenue d’exil après la chute de la dictature en 1986, Liliane a continué son combat en faveur de la liberté de la presse et de la liberté d’expression consacrées par la constitution de mars de 1987, une constitution que Liliane s’acharnait à défendre corps et âme.
Sous la dictature de Jean-Claude Duvalier, celle qu’on surnomme Lili a même connu l’exil à cause de son engagement en faveur de la démocratie et du respect des droits de la personne humaine. En tant que jeune journaliste, à cette époque, Liliane PIERRE PAUL, aux côtés de Anthony Pascal alias Konpe Filo décédé. lui aussi, un 31 juillet (2020), a mené une lutte intelligente contre la dictature duvaliériste en diffusant une édition de nouvelles en créole sur les ondes de Radio Haïti Inter. Ceci a fait enrager la dictature qui a procédé au kidnapping du 28 Novembre 1980 avec les conséquences désastreuses que l’on connaît pour la presse haïtienne.
En 2014, elle est lauréate du Prix Roc Cadet de SOS Liberté. Liliane Pierre-Paul a aussi occupé la présidence de l’Association Nationale des Médias Haïtiens (ANMH) en 2012, En 2009, elle reçoit le prix Yvonne-Rimpel de la meilleure femme journaliste. En 1990, elle a reçu le Prix du courage de la Fondation internationale des femmes dans les médias (IWMF) pour ses programmes en créole.
L’équipe de Clin d’œil Info (CDI) pleure le départ prématuré de cette héroïne qui a lutté pour une presse libre, autonome et indépendante.
