Par ailleurs, avec son club formateur où il était revenu en 2023, il a également remporté la Copa Libertadores avant d’échouer contre le Manchester City dans la finale de la coupe du monde des clubs. Après un désaccord avec son entraîneur (Meneses) en novembre dernier, il a fini par quitter le club.
De l’autre côté, avec la sélection brésilienne, Marcelo Jr a disputé 58 matches et a remporté la coupe des Confédérations en 2013. Il était titulaire avec la Seleção lors de la défaite historique 7-1 contre l’Allemagne dans les demi-finales de la coupe du monde de la FIFA, Brésil 2014.
