Le Président Donald TRUMP a signé, ce mercredi 5 février 2025, un décret interdisant aux femmes transgenres de participer aux compétitions sportives féminines, selon CNN. Cette mesure, baptisée « Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports », était un engagement clé de sa campagne de 2024. La signature a eu lieu à la Maison-Blanche, en présence de nombreuses athlètes féminines.
Le décret s’appuie sur le titre IX, qui interdit la discrimination fondée sur le sexe dans les programmes éducatifs bénéficiant de fonds fédéraux. L’administration Trump considère que cette loi doit protéger exclusivement les athlètes féminines cisgenres. Cette position marque un retour en arrière par rapport à l’administration BIDEN, qui avait estimé que l’exclusion des athlètes transgenres violait le titre IX.
L’administration TRUMP-VANCE prévoit d’intensifier la pression sur les écoles et les fédérations sportives. Le département de l’Éducation pourrait lancer des enquêtes contre les établissements ne respectant pas cette nouvelle directive, mettant en péril leur financement fédéral. Trump souhaite également influencer des organismes comme le Comité international olympique et la NCAA.
Lors de la cérémonie, TRUMP a déclaré avoir demandé au Secrétaire d’État Marco RUBIO de faire pression sur les instances olympiques internationales.
