Dans une circulaire publiée ce mardi 3 juin 2025, l’International Football Association Board (IFAB) a annoncé une clarification importante concernant les penalties. En effet, un tireur qui touche accidentellement le ballon avec ses deux pieds ne sera plus automatiquement sanctionné.
Cette précision intervient après une vive polémique survenue en avril dernier lors de la Ligue des champions. Lors d’une séance de tirs au but tendue entre le Real Madrid et l’Atlético de Madrid, le but de l’attaquant argentin Julian Álvarez avait été annulé. L’arbitre vidéo avait en effet détecté un double contact, l’attaquant avait involontairement effleuré le ballon avec son pied d’appui avant de frapper.
Face à ce flou interprétatif, l’IFAB a modifié la loi 14 du règlement. Désormais, « la règle ne s’applique que lorsque le ballon est touché deux fois de manière délibérée. Si le double contact est involontaire et que le penalty est marqué, il devra simplement être retiré », a précisé l’instance.
En revanche, si le penalty n’est pas transformé, un coup franc direct sera accordé à l’équipe adverse.
Cette mise à jour du règlement entrera en vigueur le 1e juillet 2025. Toutefois, certaines compétitions débutant avant cette date comme la Gold Cup ou la Coupe du monde des clubs de la FIFA pourront choisir de l’appliquer dès à présent.
