Le Syndicat National des Policiers Haïtiens a dénoncé, dans une note publiée, le dimanche 18 février dernier, l’incident survenu contre le Commissaire du Gouvernement du Cap-Haïtien, Maître Charles Edouard Durand, par une patrouille de l’Unité Départementale de Maintien de l’Ordre (UDMO) dans la nuit du 13 au 14 février 2024.
Le SYNAPOHA a exprimé son mécontentement face à cet incident et a été surpris par la façon dont le parquet de la juridiction du Nord a traité le dossier. Il a souligné qu’il est contraire à l’éthique qu’une instance d’être à la fois juge et partie, d’où son appel, aux autorités concernées, est non seulement detenir une réunion immédiate concernant la police et la justice, mais aussi et surtout de mettre en place une commission impartiale pour mieux trancher ce dossier.
Le Syndicat précise que la commission doit être composée de membres de l’Inspection Générale de l’institution policière et de ceux du Ministère de la Justice pour mener une enquête sur l’incident. Le rôle principal de cette commission sera, selon ladite note, d’écouter le Commissaire et les agents qui étaient à bord du Back-up de l’UDMO, afin d’obtenir de bonnes informations. De plus, il est proposé de choisir un juge spécial qui ne soit pas originaire du Cap-Haïtien pour traiter cette affaire.
En conclusion, le Syndicat demande également un traitement équitable pour les policiers et rappelle aux agents de la police nationale dans tout le pays d’agir avec professionnalisme dans l’exercice de leur travail, car l’institution policière doit maintenir ses standards élevés et travailler pour devenir plus forte. Ainsi, la police et la justice doivent collaborer pour mieux servir la société haïtienne.
