À moins d’une semaine de la réouverture de l’année scolaire 2025-2026, prévue le 1er octobre, de nombreux parents se préparent à envoyer leurs enfants à l’école. Pour d’autres, l’inquiétude domine : ils ne savent pas comment offrir cette chance à leurs enfants.
La rentrée s’annonce particulièrement difficile pour les familles vivant dans le camp installé dans les locaux du Ministère des Travaux Publics, Transports et Communications (MTPTC), à Delmas 33. Ces parents, déjà éprouvés par la violence et le déplacement forcé, se retrouvent sans ressources ni solutions alors que l’ouverture des classes approche.
Parmi eux, Guyteau FORT, père de cinq enfants et boulanger de profession, raconte sa situation avec résignation. Séparé de son épouse et de trois de ses enfants réfugiés ailleurs, il vit au MTPTC avec ses deux aînés. « Je le sais déjà, cette année, mes enfants ne pourront pas aller à l’école », confie-t-il. « Je n’ai aucune activité, aucun revenu. Chaque jour, je me lève et je reste assis sans rien faire. Si je trouvais même un petit travail, je l’accepterais juste pour envoyer un peu d’argent à ma famille », poursuit-il.
Autrefois inscrits dans une école publique pour un coût modique, les enfants de Monsieur FORT doivent désormais faire face à des frais beaucoup élevés pour fréquenter une école privée. La fermeture des établissements publics dans les zones sous contrôle des gangs complique encore la situation.
Dans le même camp, Wilson JOSEPH, vendeur de borlette, dénonce l’inaction des autorités. « Nous avons un État pauvre d’esprit », déclare-t-il. « Au lieu d’assurer la sécurité et de créer des opportunités, ils laissent les criminels agir librement jusqu’à nous chasser de nos quartiers. Aujourd’hui, nous n’avons aucun espoir. Même si je fais un effort pour inscrire mes enfants, les responsables ne les accepteront jamais sans frais d’entrée », fustige t-il.
La crise sécuritaire et économique plonge de plus en plus de familles dans une misère extrême. Monsieur BLANC, ancien boucher et père de sept enfants, raconte : « Mes enfants n’ont jamais manqué de rien. Aujourd’hui, si je ne descends pas chez ma cousine pour lui demander 500 gourdes, je n’ai rien à leur donner. Avec quoi vais-je les envoyer à l’école ? », se questionne ce dernier.
Certains parents, cependant, gardent un petit espoir en envoyant leurs enfants en province. C’est le cas de JOHANNE, enceinte de quatre mois, qui a confié son fils de 8 ans à sa grand-mère. « Même si les moyens sont limités, ma mère cherche une solution pour qu’il puisse aller à l’école », explique-t-elle.
Selon les témoignages recueillis, aucune aide concrète n’a été proposée aux familles du camp du MTPTC. La violence des gangs a entraîné la fermeture d’environ 1 600 écoles fin avril 2025, touchant plus de 243 000 enfants, principalement dans l’Ouest et l’Artibonite, selon l’OCHA.
Face à cette situation, plusieurs parents lancent un appel au Ministre de l’Éducation nationale, Augustin ANTOINE, pour la création d’écoles destinées aux enfants déplacés. À l’approche de la rentrée scolaire, une question reste entière : quelles mesures seront prises pour éviter que des milliers d’enfants haïtiens soient privés d’éducation et d’avenir ?
