Nicolás MADURO a prêté serment, ce vendredi 10 janvier 2025, pour un troisième mandat présidentiel de six ans. Lors d’une cérémonie à Caracas, entouré de ses alliés proches dont le Président cubain Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, le successeur de Hugo Chavez a présenté cette investiture comme une « victoire de la démocratie ». Pourtant, cette reconduction au pouvoir est vivement contestée, tant à l’intérieur du pays que dans l’international.
MADURO reste une figure divisive. Pour ses partisans, il est le défenseur du chavisme et de la souveraineté nationale face aux pressions étrangères. Cependant, ses détracteurs, menés par l’opposition vénézuélienne et de nombreux gouvernements étrangers, dénoncent un leader qui gouverne par la répression et le contrôle. La principale coalition d’opposition, Plataforma Unitaria, a qualifié cette investiture de « coup d’État ».
Les États-Unis et l’Union européenne ont également exprimé leur désaccord à ce sujet. Washington a renforcé les sanctions contre Nicolás MADURO et offert une récompense de 25 millions de dollars pour toute information menant à sa mise en accusation. De son côté, Bruxelles a accusé le pryésident vénézuélien de saper la démocratie et les droits humains. La Présidente du Parlement européen, Roberta METSOLA, a déclaré que « MADURO devrait être traduit en justice et non prêter un serment illégitime ». Ces critiques renforcent l’image d’un Président de plus en plus isolé sur la scène internationale.
Malgré ces oppositions, Nicolás MADURO conserve une emprise solide sur le Venezuela grâce au soutien de l’armée et de ses fidèles alliés. Cependant, le défi de gouverner un pays plongé dans une crise économique et politique sans précédent pourrait mettre à l’épreuve sa capacité à maintenir son pouvoir sur le long terme.
