L’administration TRUMP a mis en congé administratif deux hauts responsables de la sécurité de l’USAID. Il a déclaré : « _Cette organisation criminelle doit disparaître._ » MUSK, qui dirige le DOGE, appuie pleinement les actions de TRUMP contre l’agence. Il considère que l’USAID est inefficace et représente un fardeau financier pour les États-Unis.
Depuis le 1er février 2025, le site web de l’USAID est hors ligne, alimentant les rumeurs d’une restructuration imminente. Des sources indiquent que l’agence pourrait être absorbée par le Département d’État. Cette fusion entraînerait une réduction significative des fonds alloués aux programmes d’aide étrangère, affectant de nombreux pays bénéficiaires dont Haïti.
Ces développements préoccupent les travailleurs humanitaires, les diplomates et les législateurs américains. Ils craignent que la dissolution de l’USAID n’affaiblisse l’influence américaine et ne profite à d’autres puissances comme la Chine.
