Le comité norvégien a attribué, vendredi 8 octobre, le Prix Nobel de la Paix 2021 aux journalistes Maria Ressa et Dimitri Muratov.
Cette année le Prix Nobel de la Paix a été décerné aux journalistes Maria Ressa des Philippines, et Dimitri Muratov de la Russie pour leurs efforts en faveur de la « liberté d’expression ».
Maria Ressa et Dimitri Muratov « sont les représentants de tous les journalistes qui défendent cet idéal dans un monde où la démocratie et la liberté de la presse sont confrontées à des conditions de plus en plus défavorables », a déclaré la présidente du comité Nobel, Berit Reiss-Andersen, à Oslo.
Le Comité Nobel norvégien les récompense pour leurs efforts visant à préserver la liberté d’expression, «qui est une condition préalable à la démocratie et à une paix durable», a souligné la présidente.
Dimitri Muratov dédie son prix au journal Novaïa Gazeta
Dimitri Muratov, 59 ans, un des fondateurs et rédacteur en chef du journal russe Novaïa Gazeta, «a depuis des décennies défendu la liberté d’expression en Russie dans des conditions de plus en plus difficiles», a souligné le jury.
Il a dit dédier son prix à Novaïa Gazeta et à ses collaborateurs assassinés pour leur travail et leurs enquêtes. «Ce n’est pas mon mérite personnel. C’est celui de Novaïa Gazeta. C’est celui de ceux qui sont morts en défendant le droit des gens à la liberté d’expression», a-t-il dit, cité par l’agence de presse publique TASS, et listant les noms des six journalistes et contributeurs au journal assassinés.
Maria Ressa, 58 ans, avec son média d’investigation Rappler cofondé en 2012, «elle utilise la liberté d’expression pour exposer les abus de pouvoir et l’autoritarisme croissant dans son pays natal, les Philippines», dirigé par Rodrigo Duterte, a salué le jury du Nobel.
Elle a aussi reçu, en avril dernier, par l’UNESCO, le prix de la liberté de la presse, en reconnaissance de son «combat infaillible pour la liberté d’expression».
