Lors d’une conférence de presse tenue le mecredi 27 janvier 2025, le président dominicain Luis ABINADER a vivement dénoncé les déportations « inhumaines » opérées par les États-Unis envers les ressortissants dominicains. Il a déploré une « violation flagrante des droits humains » et appelé Washington à respecter la dignité de toutes les personnes, quelle que soit leur nationalité.
Cependant, ses déclarations ont suscité des interrogations, car elles surviennent après la mise en place, en octobre 2024, d’une vaste campagne de déportations massives d’Haïtiens en République Dominicaine. Le président dominicain avait annoncé un objectif de 10 000 expulsions par semaine, et selon l’Organisation internationale pour les migrations (OIM), 40 000 Haïtiens avaient déjà été expulsés en novembre 2024.
Ces expulsions, dénoncées par plusieurs ONG, sont souvent basées sur le profilage racial, visant principalement les personnes noires et exposant les Dominicains d’origine haïtienne à des expulsions arbitraires. Ce phénomène met en lumière des discriminations systématiques, souvent ignorées par les autorités dominicaines.
Ainsi, bien que le président Luis ABINADER critique fermement les pratiques des États-Unis, son silence sur les déportations qu’il mène dans son propre pays soulève des questions sur la cohérence de ses principes. Les droits humains, qu’il revendique pour ses compatriotes, semblent rarement appliqués aux Haïtiens victimes de pratiques jugées inhumaines.
Cette incohérence souligne la vulnérabilité des migrants face à des politiques migratoires arbitraires et discriminatoires, qu’ils soient Dominicains ou Haïtiens. Pourquoi les Haïtiens ne bénéficient-ils pas du même respect et de la même dignité que le président réclame pour ses citoyens ?
