Il avait besoin seulement 2 tirs à trois points pour battre ce record. Par contre, en 5 minutes et 27 secondes, après une passe de Andrew Wiggins, il a réalisé cet exploit devant sa famille présente au Madisson Square Garden, et aussi, en présence des deux anciens détenteurs de ce record ( Reggie Miller et Ray Allen). Le match a été arrêté momentanément pour rendre hommage à Steph Curry.
Rappelons toutefois que l’ancien joueur de Milwaukee, Seattle, Boston et Miami (Ray Allen) avait pris 18 ans pour réaliser l’exploit de 2973 tirs à trois points en 1300 rencontres tandis que le meneur de Golden State Warriors l’a fait, et même plus, en seulement 13 ans de carrière. Il détient donc un record de 2977 tirs en seulement 789 matches.
