Port-au-Prince en proie à des violences depuis la fin du mois de février, cela a causé la fermeture des ports et aéroports isolant ainsi Haïti du reste du monde. Le système de santé haïtien a été sérieusement frappé, ce qui met Médecin Sans Frontières (MSF) en difficulté d’exercer sa mission humanitaire.
De ce fait, à travers un communiqué publié le 21 mai 2024, Mumuza Muhinsa Musubaho, chef de la mission (MSF), fait appel aux autorités chargées des douanes et des groupes armés de leur faciliter le transport des fournitures médicales.
Déjà, plus de 30 centres hospitaliers de la capitale ont dû fermer leurs portes dont le plus grand, l’Hôpital de l’Université d’État d’Haïti pris en otages, victimes des actes de vandalisme et de pillages. MSF a alerté, si rien n’est fait, sur les conséquences qu’il y aurait sur la population face aux besoins médicaux urgents. Le cas des personnes atteintes des maladies infectieuses, de la tuberculose, souffrant des maladies chroniques risque de s’aggraver. L’insalubrité, régnant dans les sites où sont logés les déplacés, pourrait les exposer à des maladies hydriques, comme le choléra.
Jean Baptiste GOASGLAS, coordonnateur de projet MSF, affirme que cela relève d’un défi où les réserves de l’Hôpital MSF de Carrefour, inauguré en mars dernier, sont brusquement diminuées en raison du nombre de patients reçus. Il a élaboré sur l’ensemble des projets du nombre de cas assurés par le MSF en consultation externe, les cas d’urgence incluant des morts, des blessés des accidents routières, et des brûlés dont la moitié sont des enfants.
