Le président américain Joe Biden, a annoncé, ce 21 juillet 2024, le retrait de sa candidature aux élections présidentielles qui auront lieu en novembre prochain. Il jette son dévolu sur la vice-présidente Kamala Harris comme candidat à sa place.
Alors que l’opinion publique mettait en question ses capacités physiques, après le débat raté face à son rival Donald Trump, Joe Biden, testé positif du Covid19, se retire de la course.
Dans un communiqué publié ce 21 juillet, il a pris la décision de ne plus se porter candidat. Une décision qu’il dit prendre dans l’intérêt du pays et de son parti. L’actuel locataire de la Maison Blanche dit se concentrer dans l’exercice de ses fonctions de président jusqu’à la fin de son mandat.
Il croit que le reste de son mandat est une priorité pour lui. En outre, il a annoncé une adresse à la nation, au plus tard cette semaine.
Par ailleurs des interrogations se tournent sur l’eventuel remplaçant ou remplaçante de celui-ci. Le chef d’État via son compte X, dit apporter son soutien à la vice-présidente Kamala Harris, qui pourrait être la candidate des démocrates. Cependant c’est aux délégués dudit parti d’en décider.
Enfin, les performances de Joe Biden lors du débat du 27 juin, face à Donald Trump, ont été catastrophiques, selon les médias américains. La population a remarqué un Joe Biden affaibli et hors course.
