Des véhicules blindés de la force multinationale, dirigée par la police Kényane, ont été aperçus dans la zone métropolitaine de Port-au-Prince, ce mercredi 17 juillet 2024, patrouillant les aires du Champ-de-Mars.
La présence des policiers kényans a provoqué une vague de spéculation au sein des habitants des citadins. Cette présence militaire inhabituelle fait suite à la récente déclaration de l’état d’urgence sécuritaire, par le gouvernement, dans les départements de l’Ouest et de l’Artibonite, visant à lutter contre les activités criminelles des gangs armés.
Après avoir terminé leur patrouille autour du Champ-de-Mars, en particulier dans les parages du Palais National, des agents de la force multinationale se sont déployés au Centre-ville de Port-au-Prince. Ils ont pris position à la rue Pavée, non loin de Village de Dieu, contrôlé par le gang 5 secondes.
Les chars blindés de la MMS et ceux de la Police Nationale d’Haïti ont été sur les lieux et des détonations ont été entendues dans la région métropolitaine. Cette démonstration de force parviendra-t-elle à dissuader les gangs ?
Il faut aussi noter que l’un des nouveaux blindés, livrés par les États-Unis pour la Mission Multinationale de Soutien à la Sécurité, était en panne, lors de cette première apparition des policiers kényans dans la région métropolitaine.
