Scène théâtrale de violence depuis plus de trois ans, Port-au-Prince, la capitale d’Haïti, connaît une escalade sans précédent. Dans toutes les rues de la ville, les habitants sont habitués à voir des corps sans vie, la plupart criblés de balles.
Dans ce phénomène, les hommes sont les plus touchés. Il existe même des rues surnommées « VAR », en référence à l’assistance vidéo en football, en raison de la fréquence des crimes qui y sont commis. D’autres rues, comme la rue 4 ou la rue 6, situées à proximité de Tag Market à Canapé-Vert, ou encore près de Pax Villa à Maïs Gaté, sont tristement célèbres pour la violence qui y règne.
Dans ces zones, le phénomène « Bwa Kale » y a établi son quartier général. On peut y voir des pneus usagés, prêts à être enflammés pour exécuter des individus incapables de prouver leur identité avec une pièce d’identité valide ou suspectés d’appartenir à un gang. Ces derniers servent souvent de relais aux groupes armés pour faciliter leurs attaques et invasions.
Parallèlement, l’insécurité joue un rôle majeur. Entre exécutions planifiées, attaques ciblées, balles perdues et dommages collatéraux, les victimes se comptent par dizaines. Pas un jour ne passe sans qu’un corps inerte ne soit retrouvé à Port-au-Prince.
À cela s’ajoute un autre phénomène inquiétant : des cadavres sont régulièrement découverts dans plusieurs rues, surtout le matin, sans qu’aucune explication ne soit fournie. Ces exécutions sommaires instaurent un climat de peur grandissant parmi les habitants de ces quartiers, autrefois plus calmes que d’autres zones de la capitale.
Un phénomène sans cible précis
Personne n’est à l’abri du danger. Alors que la ville s’effondre à petit feu, le nombre de victimes ne cesse d’augmenter, sans que les dirigeants ne semblent s’en soucier. Civils, agents de l’ordre, délinquants… tous sont exposés, contribuant à ternir davantage l’image du pays à l’étranger.
«C’est une véritable jungle», témoigne un étudiant de l’UNASMOH, en évoquant la rue 4, où est située son université. Il affirme que deux à trois personnes y sont tuées chaque jour.
Mais ce qui le hante encore le plus, c’est une scène insoutenable : quinze à vingt minutes après les exécutions, des chiens se rassemblent pour « finaliser le travail ».
«Disparition totale : tué, brûlé, puis dévoré par des chiens. Il ne reste plus aucune moralité», conclut l’étudiant, visiblement marqué par cette barbarie.
Face à cette spirale de violence, les habitants de Port-au-Prince ne savent plus à qui se fier ni où trouver refuge. Chaque jour, la ville se transforme de plus en plus en un cimetière à ciel ouvert, où la peur a remplacé l’espoir.
Dans l’indifférence des autorités, la population s’habitue à l’horreur, comme si la mort faisait désormais partie du décor quotidien. En attendant, les balles continuent de pleuvoir et, chaque matin, un nouveau cadavre vient rappeler que la ville est prise au piège d’un cauchemar sans fin.
