MSF contraint de suspendre ses activités à Port-au-Prince face à des menaces policières
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) a suspendu ses activités médicales dans la zone métropolitaine de Port-au-Prince. Cette décision fait suite à de graves menaces de policiers, incluant des menaces de mort et de viol, après l’attaque d’une ambulance le 11 novembre dernier, où deux patients ont été tués.
Christophe GARNIER, chef de mission de MSF en Haïti, a déclaré : « Nous travaillons souvent dans l’insécurité, mais lorsque les forces de l’ordre deviennent une menace, nous devons arrêter. » MSF soignait chaque semaine plus de 1 100 patients dans la capitale. Désormais, seuls les patients déjà hospitalisés seront pris en charge.
Ces derniers jours, MSF a subi des interpellations et menaces directes de la part de policiers et de groupes armés. Ces attaques rendent impossible la poursuite de ses opérations.
Ces violences répétées témoignent d’un climat d’insécurité insoutenable, où même l’humanitaire est pris pour cible. MSF appelle les autorités haïtiennes et les acteurs concernés à garantir un environnement sécurisé, faute de quoi l’accès aux soins pour des milliers d’Haïtiens restera gravement compromis.
