La fondation «Zanmi Timoun» encourage l’allaitement maternel de la vie du bébé durant les six premiers mois. Elle estime que c’est l’un des moyens les plus efficaces de garantir la santé et la survie de l’enfant.
Selon la Fondation Zanmi Timoun moins de la moitié des bébés de moins de 6 mois sont exclusivement allaités dans le monde. Dès les premiers moments de la vie, l’allaitement maternel constitue l’intervention ultime en faveur de la survie et du développement de l’enfant.
Ladite fondation a souligné que l’allaitement protège les bébés contre les maladies infectieuses courantes, stimule leur système immunitaire et leur fournit les nutriments essentiels dont ils ont besoin pour grandir et se développer pleinement.
Tout en précisant que si les bébés ne sont pas allaités, ils sont 14 fois plus susceptibles de mourir avant leur première année que ceux qui bénéficient d’un allaitement maternel exclusif.
Des donnés du Programme Nationale Nutrition Santé (PNNS), lancé en 2001, montrent qu’au cours de la dernière décennie, la prévalence de l’allaitement maternel exclusif a connu une hausse spectaculaire, passant de 38% à 48% à l’échelle mondiale, selon l’UNICEF.
Ces progrès considérables démontrent l’efficacité des initiatives visant à protéger, promouvoir et soutenir l’allaitement des enfants. Avec le soutien de l’Organisation Mondiale de la Santé (OMS) et de l’UNICEF.
Rappellons que la semaine mondiale de l’allaitement maternel est organisée chaque année durant la première semaine d’août. Pour atteindre l’objectif mondial de 70% de taux d’allaitement maternel d’ici 2030.
La fondation Zanmi Timoun pense qu’ il est crucial de supprimer les obstacles auxquels se heurtent encore les femmes et les familles. Le soutien à l’allaitement maternel sur le lieu de travail présente des avantages non seulement pour les mères et les bébés, mais aussi pour les entreprises.
En ce sens, la Fondation Zanmi Timoun appelle à une action urgente de la part de l’État haïtien pour fournir les soins nécessaires aux mamans qui allaitent. Elle a aussi insisté sur la nécessité d’intensifier le soutien à l’allaitement sur tous les lieux de travail. Car dit-elle, ceci facilitera également l’accès des femmes mères à l’emploi.
