Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) a rouvert, ce lundi 20 janvier 2025, son centre d’urgence à Turgeau après une fermeture temporaire le 20 novembre dernier. Cette structure, essentielle pour la population de Port-au-Prince, reprend ses activités dans un contexte marqué par des tensions croissantes.
Jean-Marc Biquet, chef de mission de MSF Haïti, a reconnu la difficulté de cette décision en raison des besoins pressants. Cependant, il a souligné l’importance de garantir la sécurité des structures, des ambulances et du personnel médical.
Depuis son ouverture en 2021, le centre de Turgeau a prodigué des soins à plus de 100 000 Haïtiens. MSF a également mené des démarches auprès des autorités locales pour sensibiliser la population et assurer la sécurité des ambulances.
Jean-Marc Biquet a insisté sur la nécessité d’une collaboration continue pour maintenir l’accès aux services médicaux dans des conditions difficiles.
Le centre de Turgeau prend en charge les cas d’urgence médicale et traumatologique ne nécessitant pas plus de deux jours d’hospitalisation. Il joue un rôle crucial en stabilisant les patients avant leur transfert vers d’autres structures adaptées.
Grâce à son environnement sécurisé, l’établissement permet aux patients de bénéficier de soins de qualité et de l’expertise médicale de son personnel.
Toutefois, Jean-Marc Biquet met en garde contre la gravité de la situation sécuritaire en Haïti, qui limite l’accès aux soins pour de nombreux habitants.
Il appelle au respect des principes universels des droits humains et du droit à la santé, afin de garantir la protection des patients, des infrastructures sanitaires et des équipes médicales dans ce contexte de crise.
