Le Gouvernement haïtien a publié un communiqué annonçant la participation du Conseiller-Président Laurent SAINT-CYR à la 48e Conférence des Chefs d’État et de Gouvernement de la CARICOM. L’événement se déroulera du 19 au 21 février 2025 à la Barbade.
En effet, le Conseiller-Président Laurent SAINT-CYR dirige une délégation officielle pour représenter Haïti à cette réunion stratégique. Les dirigeants de la région y aborderont des sujets essentiels pour la communauté caribéenne.
La délégation haïtienne mettra l’accent sur le changement climatique, l’intégration régionale et la libre circulation des citoyens haïtiens. Elle défendra des mesures facilitant la mobilité au sein de l’espace CARICOM. Les discussions incluront également la sécurité et la lutte contre la criminalité. Haïti plaidera pour une coopération renforcée dans ce domaine.
Le communiqué souligne l’importance d’un soutien accru à la Mission Multinationale de Soutien à la Sécurité (MMSS) en Haïti. Cette mission doit évoluer vers une force de maintien de la paix sous l’égide des Nations Unies.
Par ailleurs, le Gouvernement haïtien rappelle que le rétablissement de la sécurité et l’organisation d’élections crédibles restent ses priorités majeures. Toutefois, il réaffirme l’engagement d’Haïti en faveur de l’intégration régionale et de la coopération avec ses partenaires caribéens.
