À la suite de l’incendie survenu, dans la nuit du 24 au 25 janvier 2026, au marché Cluny, au Cap-Haïtien, le Gouvernement haïtien a engagé une réponse d’urgence pour soutenir les commerçants et les familles affectés. Une délégation officielle, dirigée par le Ministre de l’Intérieur et des Collectivités Territoriales (MICT), Paul Antoine BIEN-AIMÉ, a été dépêchée sur place pour évaluer les dégâts et définir les mesures d’assistance.
L’incendie, dont les causes restent pour l’instant inconnues, s’est rapidement propagé et a détruit de nombreux étals situés entre les rues 9 et 11, entraînant d’importantes pertes matérielles. Sur instruction du Premier Ministre Alix Didier FILS-AIMÉ, le Ministère de l’Intérieur procède à une évaluation détaillée, afin de préparer un plan d’intervention coordonné pour venir en aide aux sinistrés.
« Aucune personne touchée ne sera laissée sans assistance », affirme l’Exécutif, qui promet un soutien tant aux commerçants qu’aux ménages impactés. Le rapport dudit Ministère devra également orienter les mesures de reconstruction et d’accompagnement des victimes.
Au-delà de cette réponse immédiate, l’incendie du marché Cluny souligne la vulnérabilité des marchés publics en Haïti, régulièrement confrontés à des risques d’incendie, d’insalubrité et de manque de mesures de sécurité adaptées.
Les commerçants interpellent souvent l’État sur la nécessité de renforcer la prévention, la gestion des infrastructures et les systèmes d’alerte pour éviter de nouvelles catastrophes. Toutefois, aucun bilan définitif des dégâts n’est encore disponible, mais une vidéo parvenue à la rédaction montre l’ampleur de la destruction et la précarité des installations affectées.
