Elon MUSK, propriétaire de Tesla, SpaceX et de la plateforme X, a annoncé, le 5 juillet 2025, la création de America Party. L’initiative est née d’un sondage sur sa plateforme X, après sa rupture avec Donald TRUMP, autour d’une nouvelle loi de dépenses. MUSK dit proposer une alternative politique axée sur la liberté individuelle et la responsabilité budgétaire.
« Devons-nous fonder un nouveau parti politique ? », c’est la question qu’Elon MUSK a soumise à ses abonnés à l’occasion de la fête de l’indépendance des États-Unis, le 4 juillet. Selon Business Insider, près de 1,2 million de personnes ont participé et près de 65 % ont répondu favorablement. Le lendemain, soit le samedi 5 juillet, MUSK a déclaré que America Party est né pour rendre la liberté aux Américains.
Cette annonce, selon plusieurs observateurs américains, tourne la page dans les relations entre MUSK et le Président Donald TRUMP. Selon Reuters et Al Jazeera, la décision de MUSK a été motivée par le désaccord autour du « One Big Beautiful Bill », un texte de loi promulgué par TRUMP. Le projet prévoit une baisse d’impôts et une hausse des dépenses publiques, une orientation que MUSK a vivement critiquée.
Pour lui, cette politique budgétaire menace la stabilité financière des États-Unis. Il accuse TRUMP de compromettre l’avenir du pays pour des raisons électoralistes. MUSK a présenté America Party comme une formation visant à rendre le pouvoir aux citoyens, selon ses termes. Il évoque un projet patriotique centré sur la liberté individuelle, la responsabilité budgétaire et l’innovation technologique.
Cependant, Elon MUSK n’a pas encore précisé s’il serait candidat ou s’il présenterait des représentants aux élections de mi-mandat ou à la présidentielle de 2028. Le milliardaire entend toutefois constituer une force d’influence dans les États clés, capable de faire pencher la balance au Congrès. Toujours selon Al Jazeera, il dit miser sur une stratégie numérique offensive, s’appuyant sur son contrôle de X pour diffuser ses idées et mobiliser un électorat lassé des partis traditionnels.
Par ailleurs, la véritable portée de America Party reste à déterminer. À l’approche des prochaines échéances électorales, l’attention, selon l’opinion publique, se portera sur la capacité du parti à s’ancrer dans le paysage politique américain.
